Great news for nature lovers and foodies alike! The Romney Marsh Visitor Centre is spreading its wings under new management and will soon reopen as The Nest. Folkestone & Hythe District Council has appointed local entrepreneur Nicola Adam to breathe new life into the beloved 11-hectare nature reserve, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Get ready to experience a vibrant new hub that champions sustainability and local produce. The Nest will feature a delightful café and retail space, offering a delicious array of locally sourced food and unique goods. Dymchurch resident Nicola Adam is buzzing with excitement, aiming for a grand opening this summer on Saturday, August 2nd.

This fantastic new chapter comes after the Kent Wildlife Trust’s decision to vacate the facility last year. Located conveniently off the A259 between New Romney and St Mary’s Bay, The Nest is poised to become a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists exploring the beauty of Romney Marsh. Come and see what all the fuss is about!

Nicola said:

“This brand-new space will provide a destination for visitors to the Marsh as well as a place for local people to come together. From crochet and craft clubs, gardening, pilates and parent meetups – The Nest will also support local school children in their learning journey.”

The appointment comes after views from residents, visitors and businesses about how the centre should evolve to meet the needs of the community, enhance the wider nature reserve experience and support the district’s economy were gathered. Cllr Jeremy Speakman, who has overseen the project, said:

“We’re thrilled the site has had its future secured after a detailed process, which included invaluable feedback from stakeholders and residents. The nature reserve remains one of the gems on the Romney Marsh – and with a dose of something new – we’re excited to introduce this new chapter.”

Romney Marsh Countryside Partnership, with the support of Folkestone & Hythe District Council, has continued to manage the nature reserve and will remain to work alongside the visitor centre’s new operator. Plans for educational events and the site being made available for usage by local groups is planned.
