By Ray Duff: Around fifty residents, spanning all generations, met near Folkestone Harbour on Thursday evening, 24 July, in a heartfelt demonstration to spotlight the severe humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza.

The gathering, though modest in size, was rich in symbolism and sound. Participants waved flags and hoisted signs bearing direct appeals such as “Stop Starving Gazans” and “Honk for Gaza.” A distinctive element of the protest was the widespread clanging of pots and pans, creating a resonant chorus of solidarity with those suffering in the Middle East. Passing motorists frequently responded to the “Honk for Gaza” plea, offering their support with appreciative horn blasts. This local assembly was not an isolated event, but rather part of a coordinated nationwide series of demonstrations. While many similar protests were slated for Friday across towns and cities throughout the country, Folkestone’s early demonstration underscored the community’s commitment to the cause.
