Neighbourhood Police officers in Tonbridge have reacted to complaints from residents by obtaining a closure notice for a property associated with persistent antisocial behaviour. The constables worked closely with West Kent housing association to gather evidence relating to multiple incidents of verbal abuse, threats and loud music at the address in Taylor Close.
The occupants were warned about the consequences if the disorderly conduct continued but, when they failed to heed the advice, a closure order was sought at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 30 July 2025. This was later authorised and will last for three months. The premises has been secured and a sign has been placed on the door with a warning that it is an offence to enter. Any unauthorised person gaining access to the property during this time, risks a fine and a prison sentence.
Inspector James Ross said:
‘This enforcement in Tonbridge has been possible thanks to residents raising their concerns with their local beat officer. Once we have sufficient information on crime and disorder associated with an address we can take action. In this case, warnings were ignored and the occupants have been required to leave. We are determined to tackle this type of problem when it arises and will work with housing providers and council colleagues to improve the quality of life for law abiding communities. I would urge any other residents who are suffering similar issues to contact us so that we can work promptly to resolve any concerns.’
