A man from Broadstairs has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term following the discovery of a large-scale cannabis operation inside his home. The bust occurred in the early hours of Sunday, March 6, 2022, when police, acting on a tip about drug supply, executed a search warrant at a property on Ramsgate Road.

Inside, officers found a significant cannabis cultivation in an upstairs bedroom. The resident of the property, a 47-year-old man, Giedrius Sadeckas, was arrested at the scene. A total of 33 cannabis plants were seized from the house, with an estimated street value of around £25,000. The seized evidence weighed nearly 4kg.

Sadeckas pleaded guilty to being concerned in the production of a controlled drug and was sentenced to 22 months in prison at Canterbury Crown Court on Thursday, July 31, 2025.

Detective Constable Alice McCarthy, of Kent Police, said:

‘The cultivation of cannabis on this scale is not a victimless crime, it is often linked to exploitation, antisocial behaviour, and organised networks. We will continue to take proactive steps to dismantle these kinds of operations and bring those responsible to justice.’
