Suspected opportunist thief in court – Medway

A suspected thief has been swiftly charged after multiple rings were reportedly stolen from a jeweller in Gillingham. The incident happened when the High Street business was open on Thursday 7 August 2025. While a member of staff was distracted it is alleged several rings were taken from a counter.

Investigators commenced enquiries including the examination of CCTV footage and on Monday 11 August, a suspect was detained by a neighbourhood officer in Medway Road, Chatham.

The man from Gillingham was later charged with theft of jewellery valued at £1,400. The 24 year old was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on the following day.
