A fire on the M20 motorway between junctions 12 and 13 caused a brief but significant incident yesterday afternoon after a remote-controlled aircraft caught fire inside a vehicle.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) was called to the scene at 13:55 BST on Sunday, August 24, 2025, after receiving reports of a vehicle fire. Two fire engines from the Folkestone and Hythe area were dispatched to the incident.

Upon arrival, crews found that a remote-controlled aircraft, which was being transported in a vehicle, had ignited the fuselage. Firefighters quickly deployed high-pressure hose reel jets to extinguish the flames, bringing the fire under control by 14:19 BST.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. The quick response from KFRS ensured the fire was contained before it could spread further or cause any serious damage. Motorists in the area experienced traffic delays while emergency services attended to the scene. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, but initial reports suggest it was confined to the aircraft itself.
