Two fire engines were called to a home in Ramsgate on Tuesday evening after an out-of-control bonfire spread to a nearby shed and fence.

Firefighters from Kent Fire and Rescue Service responded to the blaze in Coleman Crescent at 7:36pm. Crews, wearing breathing apparatus, used hose reel jets to quickly extinguish the blaze. There were no reported injuries.

Following the incident, firefighters are reminding the public to be careful when having a bonfire this autumn. They offer the following safety advice:

  • Stay with your bonfire at all times.
  • Keep it a manageable size and far away from any property or greenery.
  • Keep a means of extinguishing the fire nearby, such as a hose or a bucket of water.
  • If your bonfire gets out of control, call 999 immediately and move to a safe location.
