By Ray Duff: Get ready to explore the incredible history right on your doorstep. This September, the Heritage Open Days 2025 are returning to Folkestone and the surrounding area, offering a spectacular series of free events and venue openings. From historic churches to hidden gems, you’ll have a chance to uncover the rich heritage of the region. While all events are free to enter, remember that some require you to book a spot in advance, so be sure to check ahead!

Kicking off on Saturday, September 13th, Folkestone’s historic parish church, St Mary & St Eanswythe, will host a variety of activities, including St Eanswythe’s Fair, a dog show, and special talks and walks that continue through the 19th. On Sunday the 14th, the church will also hold a Choral Evensong.

But the exploration doesn’t stop there! You can also visit:

  • Folkestone’s Masonic Hall
  • St John’s Commandery in Swingfield
  • The RHDR in Hythe
  • Stelling Minnis Windmill
  • A Family History Workshop on the 18th at the Folkestone Library Hub on Grace Hill

The historic churches of Romney Marsh will also open their doors for free tours between the 12th and 21st. You can explore a range of stunning locations, from the ‘Cathedral of the Marsh’ at All Saints in Lydd to St Thomas Becket’s at Fairfield.
