The Folkestone Triennial has transformed the town into a breath-taking open-air gallery, but all good things come to an end and this is no exception!

2025’s festival, How Lies The Land?, was an epic adventure inviting you to uncover the hidden histories of the landscape through the eyes of international artists. From stunning sculptures to thought-provoking installations, 18 new artworks landed, and seven of them are set on land generously provided by the Folkestone & Hythe District Council.

Prepare to be amazed as you discover these incredible works woven into the fabric of the town, but be quick and you’ll find:

  • Dedication (To the Sea, To the Sea) by Céline Condorelli
  • Afterlife by Katie Paterson
  • Ka Pheko ye (curse dissolved) by Dineo Seshee Raisibe Bopape
  • Ode to the Channel by Emeka Ogboh
  • Oceans Tree of Life by Jennifer Tee
  • Love (Warbler Remix) by Hanna Tuulikki
  • Urn Field by Sara Trillo

Look out for Céline Condorelli’s mesmerizing flag installation and Monster Chetwynd’s massive, vibrant salamander, both part of the Folkestone – A Brighter Future project. You can hear Céline discuss her artwork on the In Conversation, On Water podcast. Meanwhile, a playful performance inspired by Monster’s artwork will take place on Thursday 16 October.

The Legacy Continues

The council’s long-standing support for the Triennial has helped cement Folkestone’s reputation as a creative hub. According to Councillor James Butcher,

“Creativity has become part of the fabric of Folkestone,”

Thanks to the legacy of art from past festivals. This partnership has been thriving since 2008, proving that when creativity and community collide, magic happens.

Creative Folkestone CEO Alastair Upton added,

“Folkestone Triennial has shown how art and creativity can not only transform public spaces but also how people experience them.”

This year’s exhibition continued that legacy, pushing us to see the familiar with fresh eyes. With just over a month left, you have until Sunday, October 19th, to experience this incredible, mind-bending art festival. Don’t miss your chance to be part of the adventure!
