The soon to be replaced Bus Station in Folkestone Photo: SCOPIX

The future is here, and it’s looking bright for Folkestone! As part of the ambitious £22 million Folkestone – A Brighter Future project, a major transformation of the town centre is underway. This weekend, 20 September, marks a significant milestone with the closure of the old bus station and the opening of new temporary bus stops on Middleburg Square.

The exciting project will see Bouverie Square reclaimed as a stunning public garden space, while a new, safer linear bus station is created along Middleburg Square. This ambitious scheme is a massive step forward in the regeneration of Folkestone, and with a quarter of the development already complete, progress is moving fast.

While construction is in full swing, you can find the new temporary bus stops on Middleburg Square. National Express and other coach services have already relocated to the stop behind Sainsbury’s on Bouverie Road West. Stagecoach has gone above and beyond to help riders navigate the changes, providing detailed maps, a dedicated website, and posters. You’ll even find their employees on hand to guide you to the new stops.

Once complete, the new linear bus station will not only be safer for pedestrians but will also feature real-time digital information screens and new shelters with living roofs. To learn more about the project, visit the folkestone-hythe.gov.uk/FABF.
