Cash Dispute Turns Bloody: Canterbury Man Jailed for Stabbing Friend

A Canterbury man has been sentenced to prison after stabbing a friend during a dispute over money at a house party. Liam Jones, 28, attacked the victim at a home in the city on the evening of May 29, 2025. According to court documents, both men were at a party when Jones demanded money he was owed. When the victim said he couldn’t pay at that moment, Jones escalated the confrontation.

Jones grabbed two knives and stabbed the victim four times, also punching him multiple times in the head. The victim managed to escape the house and get to a nearby shop, where he called for an ambulance. He was treated at a hospital for stab wounds to his arm and leg, as well as multiple head injuries.

Police were called to the scene and arrested Jones, who was later charged with grievous bodily harm with intent. Jones, pleaded guilty and was sentenced on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Canterbury Crown Court to five years in prison. He will serve an additional three years on license after his release.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Edward Cabot said:

‘The victim in this case was subject to a sustained attacked and is lucky to be alive. He has however been left with permanent scars, both emotionally and physically. I hope that the swift action of Kent Police to charge the preparator within 24 hours and eventually achieve a lengthy sentence brings some closure to his ordeal and will allow him to move on.’
