Kent Police was alerted to an incident in Southsea Avenue, Minster on Sea, on 20 February 2025, whereby residents returned to their address to find it unsecured. Hansen had broken in and stolen jewellery, documents and car keys – as well as a van that was parked outside.
On 27 February, a similar report was received in relation to a dwelling in Fleetwood Close. While the victims were not at home, a window was broken and Hansen together with Kiely entered to steal personal items including jewellery and watches, as well as cash.
One week later, a further property in the area was targeted. After breaking in and finding an occupant inside the property, the burglars stole designer handbags and a mobile phone after threats were made to a victim.
Kiely and Hansen were arrested on 24 April and both were charged the following day.
After pleading guilty to multiple counts of burglary, and admitting going equipped to burgle, the offenders were jailed on Monday 22 September. Hansen, who also admitted to theft and false imprisonment, was sentenced to four years and nine months’ imprisonment. Kiely was given a custodial term of three years and nine months.
Detective Constable Kati Goldsmith said:
‘Hansen and Kiely are a pair of aggressive offenders who care nothing for the impact of their crimes. Everyone has a right to feel safe and secure in their homes, and the brazen behaviour of these two had a significant impact on their many victims. I am pleased that custodial sentences have been imposed, and hope it sends a clear message that this kind of criminality will not be tolerated, whilst helping to bring closure to those who have been affected.’
