Rural Task Force officers responded swiftly to a report of suspected poaching activity in Woolage Village on the evening of Tuesday 23 September 2025. At 9.47pm, a member of the public contacted police after allegedly witnessing individuals engaging in ‘lamping’ and catapulting wildlife on private land. Lamping is a method of hunting using high-powered lights to disorient and expose animals.

Items seized from the scene

Officers liaised directly with the informant and identified the suspects and their vehicle just 20 minutes after the initial call came in. Officers approached the area discreetly, keeping lights and sirens off to avoid alerting those inside the car. A search of the vehicle revealed evidence of illegal poaching activity. Items seized included three catapults with a large quantity of ball bearings, a large torch, two head mounted torches and six dead pheasants.

Two men, aged 18 and 19, were arrested at the scene. They have both been released on bail while enquiries continue.
