Kent Police are warning Canterbury residents about a phone scam where criminals impersonate police officers. Between Sept 27-30, three victims were told their bank accounts were compromised and were pressured into withdrawing money or purchasing items. One person was defrauded of over £23,000. The fake “officers” had a courier collect the cash from the victims’ homes.
What to do if you get a suspicious call:
- Hang up.
- Wait five minutes, then call 101 to verify the identity of the caller.
- Police will never ask for your bank details or for cash to be collected by a courier.
- Report incidents to Kent Police or Action Fraud.
