Residents of four roads in Margate were forced to evacuate their homes this evening after police received a report of suspicious items inside a property.

Kent Police were called to an address on Rosedale Road around 4 pm on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, after concerns were raised about the contents of a flat. As a precautionary measure, a cordon was immediately put in place, and homes on Rosedale Road, Glencoe Road, Wharfedale Road, and Malham Drive were evacuated.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from the Ministry of Defence is currently at the scene, inspecting items in question. Crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service are also in attendance to support the operation. Thanet District Council is assisting evacuated residents, with the Hartsdown Leisure Centre being used as a welfare centre. In connection with the incident, a person has been arrested and taken into custody. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
