A man from the Isle of Sheppey has been jailed for almost four years after he sexually assaulted a young child. Nicholas Kerswell targeted the victim in Swale on 26 July 2025.
The incident was reported to a relative and the police were alerted. Officers swiftly tracked him down and he was later charged with assaulting a girl under 13 by touching. Kerswell, from Eastchurch, admitted the offence at his first appearance before Medway Magistrates’ Court on 28 July. He also pleaded guilty to a separate charge of burglary. This related to a break-in at an address in Bridgewater Road, Sheerness, on 28 March 2023.
Sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday 30 September, the 34-year-old was jailed for three years for the sexual assault and was given a further 10 months in prison for the burglary. Kerswell will also be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 10 years on his release and a restraining order.
Investigating officer Detective Constable James Horne said: ‘Kerswell’s appalling actions have had a serious impact on his victim and we’re pleased to see he will serve serious time in prison. I’d like to commend the victim for her bravery in coming forward. Her account has helped us stop him from offending for the foreseeable future.’
