Ashford Borough Council is deeply saddened to announce the death of its former Leader and Honorary Alderman, Paul Clokie OBE. Mr. Clokie dedicated 25 years of service to the borough as a councillor, representing Tenterden East from 1998 to 2003 and then Tenterden North from 2003 until 2023.
Paul Clokie’s impact on Ashford was significant, highlighted by his tenure as Leader of the Council from 1999 to 2010. For his extensive service, he was later appointed as an Honorary Alderman in October 2023. After stepping down as Leader, he continued to serve on the Cabinet, holding several key portfolios:
- 2010–2011: Planning
- 2015–2017: Housing
- 2017–2019: Planning
- 2019–2022: Regeneration and Corporate Property
- 2012–2015: Chair of the Audit Committee
In recognition of his long-standing contributions to local government, Paul Clokie was awarded his OBE in the 2007 Birthday Honours.
