Great news for Folkestone bus passengers! The new Middelburg Square Bus Station is getting an immediate upgrade this week with the rapid installation of temporary shelters.
After an unavoidable hiccup in the supply chain pushed back the arrival of the permanent, state-of-the-art shelters until early 2026, the council and contractor Bauer Media Outdoor (BMO) are stepping up to the plate. They’ve secured fast-track temporary covers to keep you dry and protected as the cold weather moves in!
The highly anticipated permanent shelters, custom-designed for the Folkestone – A Brighter Future scheme, are going to be revolutionary so get ready for:
- Full side panels to shield you from the wind and rain.
- Real-time digital displays showing exact bus arrival times.
- A touch of green with sustainable living roofs!
The temporary shelters are being installed this week, with all work happening overnight to ensure bus services and daily travel remain totally unaffected.
Cllr James Butcher, Folkestone & Hythe District Council’s Cabinet Member for the District Economy said:
“The delay to the permanent shelters has been disappointing, but we moved fast to ensure temporary shelters are in place to shield users as we go into the colder months. Thank you to bus passengers for being patient whilst this interim solution was organized.”
Heads Up for Quick Stop Change for Construction Work!
The Middelburg Square F3 bus stop is taking a two-week detour starting this Wednesday (October 29). It will temporarily relocate to Bouverie Place, behind the old bus station and opposite Burger King. This quick move is essential to keep the construction of the new square on track. The F3 stop services the 102, 103, 104, 105, 91, and 74 routes. Four parking bays in Bouverie Square will also be temporarily closed to accommodate this essential construction phase.
Rest assured, Stagecoach, KCC, Jackson Civil Engineering, and Folkestone & Hythe District Council are working closely to keep disruption to an absolute minimum and ensure any temporary stop changes are clearly signposted and communicated.
The massive Folkestone – A Brighter Future project is now over a third complete and charging toward its final summer 2026 completion date!
