The moped and dirt bike were confiscated by patrols following reports of nuisance bikers causing upset and intimidation to residents. Officers located the vehicles in Rysted Lane, Westerham on 24 October and a 15-year-old boy was detained until his parents arrived at the scene.
Further enquiries established the bikes were unregistered and they will now both be destroyed.
Sevenoaks Chief Inspector Rik Spicer said:
‘We are aware of concerns from residents in Westerham about a minority of young people illegally riding motorcycles in areas including public spaces and footpaths and we will continue to target those whose selfish actions cause real anxiety and distress. I hope residents are reassured that, as this example shows, our proactive patrols will not hesitate to seize and destroy vehicles causing a nuisance and which often pose real dangers to other road users and pedestrians. We are also continuing to use antisocial behaviour legislation to issue the likes of community protection warnings and acceptable behaviour agreements to both riders and parents. Failure to adhere to these can result in prosecution and court appearances.’
