Police have charged a second suspect in connection with a disturbing incident in Maidstone where a woman allegedly posed as a care worker to steal from a highly vulnerable, 91-year-old pensioner suffering from dementia.

The shocking event, which targeted the elderly victim at her home near Week Street, was reported to officers on Saturday, November 15, 2025. It is alleged that at approximately 11:15 AM, a stranger gained access to the property by making false claims to a relative that she was the victim’s carer.

The individual then reportedly left the scene with the pensioner’s bank card. Police suspect the stolen card was subsequently and immediately used to commit fraud, making multiple cash withdrawals and purchases that stripped the victim of more than £2,000.

  • Charges: Both suspects have now been charged with offences relating to the theft and subsequent fraudulent activity.
  • Community Concern: The nature of the crime—targeting an elderly person with dementia and using a position of trust (carer) as a disguise—has raised significant concern among local residents and authorities.

Police urge neighbours and relatives to remain highly vigilant regarding unexpected callers claiming to be from official services. They advise to always verify identity through official channels before allowing anyone access to a vulnerable person’s home.

Both women will next appear at Maidstone Crown Court, on 15 December 2025.
