Experience the historic Western Heights like never before after a key section of The King Charles III England Coast Path at St Martin’s Battery has been dramatically upgraded, making one of Dover’s most impressive sites easier for all to access.

What’s New?

  • Wider, smoother paths with a new compacted stone surface.
  • Enhanced viewing areas to soak in stunning, expansive vistas of Dover Harbour, the English Channel, Dover Castle, and the iconic White Cliffs.
  • Better accessibility for everyone to enjoy this nationally significant destination.

This is part of a thrilling, wider transformation of the Western Heights, supported by funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and National Trails (and backed by a Historic England grant).

Massive thanks has gone out to volunteers from the Western Heights Preservation Society and White Cliffs Countryside Partnership, who have cleared huge areas, transforming St Martin’s Battery and opening up previously hidden views!

Dover District Council’s Cabinet Member, Cllr Lynne Wright, said:

“Excellent progress is being made to protect the area, improve accessibility, and maintain it as a destination of national and international significance.”

So come along and explore the new King Charles III England Coast Path at Dover!
