Officers from the Child Centred Policing team were joined by Martin Cosser, founder of Charlie’s Promise on Tuesday 2 December 2025 to educate the youngsters in Medway about the effects of knife crime.
Nearly 600 students from the Robert Napier School and the Walderslade and Greenacre School listened as Mr Cosser told them his story and the impact it has had on his family, after his son Charlie died following a stabbing in Sussex in 2023.The visit also helped the students learn about how to make safe decisions and good friends, the realities of prison life plus the law and how it is applied.
Police Constable Kaz Finn said:
‘Tackling knife crime in Kent is about so much more than seizing knives and making arrests. It’s also about understanding the reasons behind carrying a knife, and how we can influence this – equipping people with the facts and empowering them to make better choices. Events like these are important to ensuring young people are fully informed.’
