Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) held its annual awards ceremony on Thursday (December 4th), celebrating the exceptional courage, kindness, and dedication of people who have gone above and beyond to help others and who have shown long service within the organisation.
Acts of Heroism
- Derek and Danny Brown: The father and son from Herne Bay were recognised for their bravery after entering a smoke-filled bungalow to rescue their neighbour, Norman, who had mobility restrictions. Norman’s sister, Jackie, expressed her deep gratitude, stating their selfless actions provided her with more precious time with her brother.
- Dan Fiveash: While on shift at ASDA Living in Maidstone, Dan was honoured for leaping into the River Medway and saving a man’s life.
Community Commitment
- Crew Manager Michael Cramer: Michael received The Chief Executive Award for his exceptional support of the ellenor children’s hospice. He and his team at Thames-side fire station organised a mini open day for 24 children from the hospice and their siblings, providing a special and memorable experience.
Long Service Recognition
- More than 50 KFRS personnel were presented with awards to thank them for their dedication and long service to the community.
KFRS Chief Executive Ann Millington congratulated all recipients, stating, “Every person who has been honoured at this year’s awards ceremony has shown compassion, kindness, and bravery… Thank you for everything you do to help keep Kent and Medway safe.”
