Prompt Police Work Jails Burglar Very Next Day After Maidstone Shop Break-in

Exceptional police work led to the swift arrest and immediate sentencing of a burglar who targeted an independent Maidstone coffee shop, demonstrating the efficiency of local patrols and investigators.

Patrol officers nabbed Danny Crawley red-handed after he stole cash and items from a Maidstone shop in the early hours of Wednesday, December 3, 2025 when they were called to Puddings on Week Street at approximately 2:45 AM regarding a burglary in progress. Officers swiftly attended the scene, where they apprehended Crawley with some of the stolen goods in his possession. He had gained entry by smashing through the front door, stealing an iPad, a till drawer, and over £150 in cash.

Investigators further tracked Crawley’s movements after reviewing CCTV footage, which revealed he had previously stolen additional items just hours before the main incident. The investigation team located the discarded till drawer with a small amount of loose change near the Hazlitt Theatre.

Crawley, 44, of Abbey Wood, London, was arrested, charged with burglary and criminal damage, and remanded in custody. In a testament to the speed and efficiency of the police operation and judicial process, he appeared before Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on December 4, the very next day. He pleaded guilty to the offences and was immediately sentenced to 20 weeks’ imprisonment and ordered to pay £154 in compensation to the victim.

Investigating Officer, PC Tom Zsinko, commented on the significance of the prompt action:

‘We are pleased that our officers were able to apprehend Crawley and secure immediate justice for his actions. For independent businesses, incidents like this can make the difference between being able to continue trading or closing their doors for good. The rapid response and diligent follow-up ensured this offender was removed from the community without delay.’
