A man from Strood has been hit with a hefty £1,006 fine after he was caught transporting waste illegally and subsequently failed to pay the initial penalty.

The incident occurred in January 2025 when Nathan Fox was stopped in Rochester during a multi-agency crackdown by Kent Police and Medway Council. Officers found metal waste visible in his vehicle, and the 28-year-old confessed he lacked both the mandatory upper tier waste carrier licence and a scrap metal dealer licence.

A Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) was issued on the spot. When Fox ignored the FPN, the case was escalated to Medway Magistrates’ Court. On 15 October 2025, the court proved the offence in his absence, resulting in a £1,006 fine for his failure to respond to the initial penalty.
