Firefighters extinguished a blaze in Margate early Sunday morning after an electric blanket caught fire, believed to be due to an electrical fault.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) was called to a property on Churchfields at 1:09 am this morning, 14 December. Two fire engines from the Thanet station quickly attended the scene. Crews used a high-pressure hose reel jet to bring the flames under control within half an hour.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from the incident. KFRS said the cause of the fire was thought to be accidental, caused by an electrical fault within the blanket. The service is using the incident to remind residents to regularly check electrical appliances for damage and ensure electric blankets are tested before winter use.
