Ongoing work to tackle nuisance e-scooters and e-bikes in Gravesend has resulted in nine seized in one day.

The enforcement activity took place on Sunday 14 December 2025 in the town centre following concerns about the safety risks posed by these vehicles when used illegally. Officers patrolled the area and stopped several people after they were seen riding on pavements.

In total, nine e-bikes and e-scooters were seized with Traffic Offence Reports issued to the riders.

One individual failed to stop when requested by officers in New Road. With assistance from Kent Police drone pilots, he was located a short distance away in Peacock Street.

A search revealed the 21 year old was in possession of cannabis, and further class B drugs were found at his home address. He was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and has been bailed while enquiries continue.

His e-scooter was seized, and he was issued with a Traffic Offence Report.

Inspector Tom Elliott from the Gravesend Community Safety Unit said:

‘Using e-scooters or e-bikes illegally is not only against the law, it’s dangerous. Riders risk serious injury to themselves and others when travelling on pavements or public roads. These vehicles are only permitted on private land with the landowner’s consent, and there are currently no Government-approved trials in Kent. Anyone caught riding illegally faces enforcement action, including seizure of the scooter and a Traffic Offence Report. We will continue to take action against anyone who flouts the law.’
