Two suspects have been arrested following reports that more than 40 parked vehicles were interfered with in coastal towns near Canterbury.
The offences are alleged to have occurred between Tuesday 18 November and Wednesday 17 December 2025, when vehicles were targeted in Carlton Hill, Sea View Road and Riley Avenue, Herne Bay, and Grimshill Road, Seafield Road and Thistle Drive, Whitstable.
Motorists reported that cars and vans were broken into, and possessions rummaged through, with items taken including cash, cards and other personal belongings. Enquiries were carried out which led to the arrest of two boys, aged 17 and 14, on 17 December.
Inspector Dan Fordom said:
‘Theft from motor vehicles is often an opportunistic crime and, while my officers are investigating the recent reports, I would like to remind motorists of how best to protect their personal property. Make sure to remove all valuables from vehicles overnight and ensure all doors are locked and all windows are fully closed. Never leave anything of value on display and, wherever possible, park in a garage or a well-lit secure car park. Also, remember to remove any suction marks left by electronic devices from windscreens or dashboards.’
