Emergency services were called to a significant fire at a derelict building on St Julien Avenue late Friday evening, January 2, 2026.
At the height of the blaze, six fire engines and a bulk water carrier were deployed to the scene. Firefighters worked through the night to bring the flames under control and prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring properties.
Due to a large volume of smoke billowing from the site, Kent Fire and Rescue Service issued an advisory announcement for residents in the immediate area to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution.
No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire crews remained on-site Saturday morning to dampen down hotspots and ensure the structure was secure.
