Black Ice Blamed for Another Early Morning Crash in Ashford

Emergency services are urging motorists to exercise extreme caution following a road traffic collision on Sir Henry Brackenbury Road early Thursday morning.

The incident, which occurred during the height of a freezing cold snap, is believed to have been caused by treacherous black ice on the carriageway.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) was alerted to the scene at 6:04 AM on January 8. Three fire engines were dispatched to the location, arriving shortly after to secure the area.

The scene was declared safe and crews stood down by 6:30 AM.

Following the crash, Kent Fire and Rescue issued a formal reminder to the public regarding the dangers of sub-zero driving conditions. Officials warned that black ice is often invisible to the naked eye, making it one of the most significant hazards of the winter season.
