Six men have been charged after memorial plaques were reported stolen from a Chatham church.
The tablets, which commemorated local residents who lost their lives in the First World War, went missing from a church on Luton Road on Friday, May 23, 2025.

Following an investigation, Medway officers recovered the plaques less than a week later. The memorials have since been fully restored and are now displayed inside the place of worship. Chatham War Memorial Plaque
On Thursday, November 27, two men, aged 39 and 34 and both from Chatham, were charged with theft and criminal damage exceeding £5,000. These individuals, along with four others, aged 27 and 26 from Dartford, 52 from Chatham, and 42 from Rochester, were also charged with receiving stolen goods.
All six men appeared in court together on Thursday, January 8, 2026 and are scheduled to appear before Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, February 6.
