FOLKESTONE — Emergency crews responded to a house fire in Folkestone on Monday evening after logs stored too close to a wood burner ignited, according to Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

The alarm was raised at 6:15 PM on January 12 at a semi-detached property on Jointon Road. Two fire engines were dispatched to the scene, where crews arrived to find a fire established in the lounge. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the home and used high-pressure hose reel jets to extinguish the flames, while a positive pressure ventilation fan was deployed to clear the building of smoke.

One person was treated at the scene before being passed into the care of South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics. The incident was brought under control and concluded by 7:02 PM.

Fire investigators believe the blaze was accidental and sparked by the proximity of fuel to the heat source. Following the incident, Kent Fire and Rescue Service issued a safety reminder to the public, urging residents to keep log baskets, wood, paper, and other flammable materials a safe distance from chimneys and log burners to prevent accidental ignition.
