GRAVESEND, Kent – British Transport Police have launched an appeal for witnesses after an elderly passenger was assaulted and pushed onto a station platform on New Year’s Day.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:35 pm on Thursday, 1 January 2026, aboard a train bound for Gravesend. Police report that the altercation began when a train guard approached a male passenger to conduct a routine ticket check.
The suspect reportedly became aggressive, directing a verbal torrent of threats and abuse at the guard. When an elderly man travelling on the same service attempted to intervene and de-escalate the situation, the suspect turned his aggression toward him.
According to investigators, the suspect pushed the elderly man to the floor of the carriage before forcibly shoving him out of the train and onto the platform.
