A 21-year-old man faces criminal charges after Special Constables seized a large knife and illegal drugs in Gillingham town centre. The incident, which took place on Sunday afternoon, was triggered by a report from a concerned member of the public regarding a person seen with a weapon near the local railway station.
The alert was raised at approximately 3:10 pm on January 18, 2026. Officers on patrol were informed that an individual was armed with a knife in the vicinity of the station, prompting an immediate search of the surrounding area.
During the search, officers located and detained a suspect in a nearby alleyway. Upon further inspection, police recovered a large knife and a quantity of cannabis. The rapid intervention by the patrol officers ensured the dangerous weapon was safely removed from the public space.
Following the arrest, the individual was charged the next day with possession of a knife in a public place and possession of a Class B drug. The suspect has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
