The path toward a spectacular new era for Folkestone’s favourite play destination officially kicks off next week.

Starting Monday, February 2, essential stabilization work will begin near The Vinery to ensure the cliffside is stronger and safer than ever. This project involves expert techniques like soil nailing and the installation of protective netting, effectively turning the page on the challenges brought by 2024’s record-breaking rainfall.

While specialist teams and their heavy machinery get to work, the council have made sure the park remains a welcoming place for your daily stroll. On weekdays, a convenient temporary pedestrian walkway will be available near The Leas bandstand to guide people around the site. Even better news for weekend explorers is that full access is expected to be maintained every Saturday and Sunday, allowing you to enjoy the fresh coastal air without interruption.

While you might notice a little extra activity and minor movement within the Lower Leas Coastal Park itself, these small steps are leading to a massive result. Once this foundation work wraps up in early April, the excitement truly shifts into high gear and it will be full steam ahead with a magnificent £750,000 upgrade to the region’s largest free adventure playground, creating a world-class space for families to play, explore, and make memories for years to come.
