ASHFORD, Kent – Fire investigators report a house fire that broke out in Charing on Saturday morning was started deliberately.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the blaze on Downsway at 11:23 AM. Three fire engines and a specialist height vehicle were dispatched to the scene, where crews discovered a fire in a bedroom.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using a main jet hose and remained on-site for around two hours dampening down hotspots to ensure the area was safe. The incident was officially closed at 1:25 PM. Fortunately, no injuries were reported following the incident but a preliminary assessment of the scene has led authorities to treat the cause of the fire as suspicious.
