A violent offender from Wye, who subjected a woman from Sheppey to sustained abuse is beginning a six-year jail sentence.
Lewis Taylor, 36, was responsible for a number of assaults and abuse against the victim resulting in her needing hospital treatment.
The first incident occurred in June 2025, when after accusing her of cheating, he strangled her and pushed her to the floor. During another incident he went to her workplace, grabbed her by the shirt collar and spat in her face, and on another occasion gave her two black eyes.
The final straw came when he went to her home address in Leysdown on 27 July, letting himself in and repeatedly hitting her head against a toilet, floors, walls and other objects, and punching her several times. He then dragged her downstairs into the courtyard, urinated on her and smashed her phone. She managed to escape to neighbours, who called police.
Taylor fled the scene before officers arrived but was arrested in Sidcup later that evening. He was charged with intentional strangulation, assault by beating, actual bodily harm and criminal damage.
Taylor denied the offences but was convicted by a jury at Maidstone Crown Court and was sentenced at the same court on Friday 30 January 2026 to six years’ imprisonment. He was also given a 15 year restraining order.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Daniel Grant said:
‘Taylor subjected his victim to the most harrowing of abuse, showing no remorse or responsibility for what he did throughout the investigation and the trial. He made her relive her ordeal while denying the offences, but the courage shown by the victim undoubtedly helped us ensure her abuser has now faced justice.’
