Kent is officially charging ahead with England’s largest local authority EV infrastructure project, a record-breaking initiative set to install 10,000 charging sockets across the county.

Fuelled by over £12 million from the Department for Transport’s LEVI fund and bolstered by significant private investment, this massive rollout comes at zero cost to Kent County Council taxpayers. It is a bold, future-proof leap that ensures the county’s transport network is as innovative as the drivers using it.

Starting in Summer 2026, the first phase will transform the lives of residents who lack driveways or off-street parking. By focusing on high-demand residential areas, the project removes the single biggest barrier to electric vehicle ownership. Kent County Council has secured a 20-year partnership with specialist operator Urban Fox to deliver these chargers using sleek, low-impact designs that blend into local streets while keeping disruption to an absolute minimum.

This ambitious programme is the cornerstone of Kent’s wider mission to modernize local transport. Building on the success of 200 existing car park chargers, this new 10,000-socket network cements Kent’s status as a national leader in green innovation. By providing universal access to power, the county is ensuring that every resident—regardless of their housing type—can join the electric revolution and enjoy a cleaner, more connected future.
