Kent Police intercepted a sophisticated shoplifting operation in Swale on Sunday afternoon, resulting in the arrest of three women and a girl, along with the recovery of over £3,000 in stolen merchandise.

The incident began around 2:50 pm on February 15, 2026, when CCTV operators in Sittingbourne spotted a group exiting a supermarket on the Avenue of Remembrance with multiple trolleys full of unpaid goods. Although the suspects initially fled the scene in two vehicles, swift coordination by the Community Safety Unit allowed officers to track them to a second supermarket located on Bysing Wood Road in Faversham.

Just 40 minutes after the initial report, police moved in to arrest three suspects inside the Faversham store as they were caught attempting to remove security tags from items. A fourth individual was detained simultaneously in a vehicle parked outside. A subsequent search of the cars revealed a massive haul of groceries, including high-value chocolates and cleaning products.

The group, consisting of three women aged 21, 23, and 45, and a 16-year-old girl, all from London, were arrested on suspicion of shoplifting and handling stolen goods. The 23-year-old faces an additional suspicion of driving while disqualified. All four individuals have since been released on bail as the investigation continues.
