Over a five-month period between June and November 2025, Aaron Nugent assaulted his victim multiple times and controlled where she could go and who she could speak to. He often followed her and would turn up unannounced at locations she had planned to visit and be offensive.

Nugent also threw a brick through the window of her home and climbed into the property when she refused to let him in. On another occasion, during a two hour ordeal, whilst drunk, Nugent repeatedly punched and slapped the victim, grabbed her round the neck causing bruising and threatened to kill her.

Police arrested Nugent, from Faversham on 28 November 2025 and he was later charged with non-fatal strangulation, controlling and coercive behaviour, actual bodily harm, assault by beating, threats to kill and criminal damage. The 45 year old pleaded guilty to the offences and on 18 February 2026 at Maidstone Crown Court was jailed for four years.

Investigating officer Police Constable Sonita Cox said:

‘Nugent is an appalling individual whose violent behaviour put the victim in considerable fear. I am pleased he has been taken off the street and is no longer a threat to women.

‘Kent Police always takes reports of domestic abuse seriously and we have specially trained officers who will ensure investigations are carried out carefully and sensitively. They will ensure victims are safeguarded and offenders swiftly detained and put before the court to answer for their actions.’
