The Kent Museum of the Moving Image in Deal, Kent, has launched a new mini-exhibition dedicated to the legendary actor, comedian, musician, and singer Norman Wisdom (1915–2010).

Curated by Natasha Poljakowa, the tribute was developed with the support of the performer’s nephew, Peter Wisdom, who provided various materials on loan from his private collection.

One of the highlights includes a rare glimpse into Wisdom’s early life, featuring a photograph of him with his trumpet while serving with the 10th Hussars in India circa 1933.

A Lifelong Connection to Deal

Once famously dubbed by Charlie Chaplin as his “favourite clown,” Wisdom maintained a deep, lifelong affection for the town of Deal.

He spent around seven years of his youth there during the 1920s and continued to regularly return to the seaside town until his passing at the age of 95.

Exhibition Highlights

The exhibition offers an in-depth look at Wisdom’s formative years and his enduring local legacy.
