Folkestone & Hythe District Council recently hosted a landmark summit at the Folkestone Nepalese Community Centre in Cheriton, bringing together diverse charities and organizations to fortify the local “safety net” for military veterans and active personnel.
This inaugural event, described by Leader Cllr Jim Martin as a district first, aimed to streamline collaboration between groups like the Royal British Legion and Kent Fire and Rescue to ensure that those who served, particularly national service veterans are aware of the resources available to them.
During the session, veterans from The Royal Gurkha Rifles shared personal accounts of their transition to civilian life, highlighting the vital role of local assistance.
Cllr Mike Blakemore praised the Nepalese community for their cultural contributions and for hosting the gathering, which underscored a collective commitment to honouring service members.
