11 Charged Following Fracas in Lordswood Area of Chatham

An extensive physical confrontation that occurred in a Chatham suburb last year has led to criminal charges for eleven individuals.

Police were originally called to the scene on a Saturday evening in September following reports of a large-scale fight at a local funfair.

To piece together the events, investigators spent months reviewing mobile phone recordings and surveillance footage. This process led to the initial arrest and interview of four teenagers shortly after the incident, who were then released while the investigation remained ongoing.

Earlier this week, the legal proceedings culminated in eleven people appearing in court to face charges of affray. This group consisted of two adults and nine teenagers from the surrounding areas. One of the minors involved faced an additional charge for carrying an offensive weapon in a public space.

During the initial court hearing, five of the teenagers entered guilty pleas, including the individual charged with weapon possession. The remaining four teenagers and both adults entered pleas of not guilty. Future court dates have been scheduled throughout May and June, with the adults set to appear at Maidstone Crown Court while the youth cases will be handled through a specialized youth court for both sentencing and further hearings.
