A clampdown on people carrying drugs in Medway has led to further arrests following checks in pubs and surrounding areas.
Officers in plain clothes and Neighbourhood Police were out on Friday 8 May 2026 in locations including Chatham and Gillingham where a 33 year old man was found in possession of a small bag of cocaine at a pub in Robin Hood Lane, Chatham and was given a community resolution.

During the same operation, officers arrested a 30 year old man on suspicion of possession with intent to supply after a police dog indicated he may be carrying drugs. He was searched and dropped a quantity of class A drugs onto the floor.
Officers on patrol in Gillingham High Street spotted a man acting suspiciously and following a search was found in possession of class A drugs and a knife. He was arrested and subsequently bailed.
Inspector Allen Searle said:
‘We regularly carry out this type of activity to deter those who choose to carry illegal drugs and to take action where offences are identified.
‘These patrols also provide an opportunity to ensure licensed premises are complying with their conditions and supporting a safe environment for customers.
‘Our officers, including specially trained dogs, carry out searches where there are grounds under the Misuse of Drugs Act. We will continue to carry out this work to disrupt criminal activity and provide reassurance to local communities.’
