Fire Crews Extinguish Blazing Tyre Stack in Ramsgate

Thanet, Kent – Kent Fire and Rescue Service successfully contained a significant fire involving a large pile of tyres in a field near Grinsell Hill on Wednesday night. Three fire engines were dispatched to the scene at approximately 21:00 on May 13 after reports of the blaze reached emergency dispatchers.

Upon arrival, crews deployed a high-pressure hose reel jet and a compressed air foam system (CAFs) to suppress the flames. These specialized tactics were instrumental in preventing the fire from spreading to the surrounding vegetation. To ensure public safety and environmental management, the majority of the tyres were permitted to burn out under controlled conditions. One fire engine remained on-site throughout the night to maintain a watching brief and monitor the smouldering remains.

The incident was officially declared closed at 09:43 on Thursday morning. No injuries were reported during the operation, and the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
