A coordinated enforcement operation targeting organised crime in Medway has resulted in an arrest and the seizure of cash and a large quantity of contraband.

On Friday, May 8, 2026, Kent Police officers joined forces with Trading Standards, Immigration Enforcement, and police licensing teams to crack down on illicit activities. The multi-agency crackdown focused on illegal working, illicit tobacco, non-compliant vapes, and suspected sexual exploitation.

During the operation, teams inspected six different premises, including vape shops, car washes, grocery stores, and massage parlours. In several locations, officers uncovered hidden storage areas specifically designed to conceal illicit tobacco products. The joint effort led to the arrest of one individual for illegal working and breaching bail conditions. Authorities also confiscated more than £2,000 in cash, alongside 1.9kg of loose tobacco and 7,849 illegal cigarettes. Furthermore, four prohibited items were successfully intercepted and removed from store shelves before they could be sold to the public.

Following the searches, officials issued formal warning letters to several businesses regarding the sale of items linked to drug preparation. The business owners were advised that failing to comply with the provided guidance would lead to further enforcement action.

Inspector Allen Searle said:

‘This was a coordinated effort with partner agencies to address a range of concerns linked to organised criminality in Medway.

‘By working together, we are able to identify illegal activity, take action where necessary and ensure businesses understand their responsibilities. We will continue to take robust action against those who seek to exploit communities or operate outside the law.’
