A man has been charged after a military silhouette display in Ramsgate was damaged. Kent Police were called to the scene just after 5:00 pm on Friday 29 May 2026, following reports of a man seen with a suspected weapon near West Cliff Promenade. Officers arrived quickly and arrested a suspect.

Subsequent police patrols discovered that a rifle had been snapped off one of the 338 ‘Standing with Giants’ silhouettes located around Ramsgate harbour. The art installations are scheduled to remain around the historic harbour until the end of June, with each silhouette representing 1,000 soldiers rescued from the Dunkirk beaches during Operation Dynamo.

A 39-year-old man from Cliftonville has been charged with criminal damage, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, common assault, and using threatening or abusive words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm, or distress. He is scheduled to appear at Margate Magistrates’ Court on Monday 1 June.
