A summer drive aimed at reducing litter on South East Kent beaches has officially launched with the return of the LoveYourBeach campaign.
The initiative is being jointly run by Dover District Council, Folkestone and Hythe District Council, and waste contractor Veolia. It features a range of targeted projects designed to raise public awareness and keep the district’s coastlines clean throughout the busy summer months.
As part of the drive, a specialized e-bike collection vehicle is returning to Deal and Walmer. The eco-friendly vehicle will assist crews in emptying waste bins along the promenade, allowing them to easily access tighter areas that larger, traditional vehicles cannot reach.
In addition to the e-bike patrols, authorities are installing new signage across the district to encourage residents and visitors to either bin their litter or take it home.
The infrastructure is also getting a significant upgrade:
- Daily beach cleans have officially commenced, with Veolia’s summer teams covering the entire stretch of coastline between Kingsdown and Deal.
- Five new compactor bins have been installed in the Deal and Walmer area, funded by Southern Water.
- Two large bulk bins have been placed on Deal Pier by Veolia.
Cllr Edward Biggs, DDC Cabinet Member for Planning and Built Environment said:
“We love to see our residents and visitors enjoying themselves at the district’s beaches. But it’s important to remember not to leave your litter behind, to protect the environment and keep beaches safe and looking great for the future.”
