An athletics track in Thanet has officially reopened to the public following an extensive refurbishment project, thanks to a successful community use agreement between Kent County Council, Royal Harbour Academy, Thanet District Council and England Athletics.
Thanet District Council contributed £40,000 towards the total £80,000 cost of the project to help repair the facilities at the local academy. The 400-metre running track had been closed since March 2025 due to safety concerns after sustaining significant damage to both the running surface and the floodlights.
The extensive restoration work involved completely resurfacing the track, replacing the track drainage system, and repairing and upgrading the floodlights. The council’s financial contribution specifically supported the restoration of the floodlighting system.
