Emergency services were called to a property in Folkestone early this morning after a tumble dryer caught fire. Kent Fire and Rescue Service deployed two fire engines to the scene in William Avenue at around 7:23 am on Tuesday, 23 June 2026.
Upon arrival, crews equipped with breathing apparatus tackled the blaze using high-pressure hose reel jets. Firefighters also used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear smoke from the building.
The occupants managed to escape the house safely, and no injuries were reported. Fire officials noted that the residents had closed the internal door to the room where the fire broke out before exiting, an action that significantly reduced smoke and fire damage to the rest of the property.
Crews had successfully dealt with the incident by 7:54 am. The fire is believed to have started accidentally and has been linked to an electrical fault. Following the incident, Kent Fire and Rescue Service issued a reminder to the public to ensure all electrical appliances are in good working order before use and to maintain a sufficient number of working smoke alarms throughout their homes.
